About the artist:
Ken was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the son of an English father and Irish mother. He was raised and educated in Belfast having attended Annadale Grammar school where his artistic ability became evident. He then attended the Belfast/Ulster College of Art and Design. He studied under such noted Irish artists as Richard Croft, Neil Shawcross, David Crone and John Turner. Upon graduation from Art College Ken immigrated to Canada where he worked briefly in Toronto as an Interior Designer before gaining his private pilot's licence and pursuing a career in Air Traffic Control.
Through his career in aviation he has been fortunate enough to have traveled to, and lived in, some of the remote and beautiful parts of North America including Northern Ontario, the Arctic, North West Territories, the Yukon, British Columbia, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. Ken’s love of nature and his northern experience are reflected in his work.
Ken is an admirer of the works of Tom Thompson and Bob Kuhn, both of whom had a wonderful ability to capture the essence of nature.
Upon retirement, and missing the sea, Ken relocated to Nova Scotia in 2014 and settled in Musquodoboit Harbour where he devotes more time to his artistic endeavours. Ken likes to sketch using pen, pencil or marker and normally paints with acrylics.
