The Old School Community Gathering Place is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a grant through the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

This grant will fund our new program entitled "Six Circles" where we will be providing access to mental health supports for young women in some of the most remote areas of our catchment.

We are grateful for this funding through the @MentalHealthNS/Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia's Community Grant Program.

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is a registered charity dedicated to increasing financial support to community initiatives that provide hope and eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction. Its mission is to make a difference in the lives of Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction and their loved ones by funding mental health programs and services province-wide.

In 2025-26, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia distributed more than $4 million dollars to fund mental health programs and service through Grant Programs. Visit www.mentalhealthns.ca to learn more.

YESS Grant Funding

The Old School Community Gathering Place would like to thank The Honourable Sean Fraser MP for dropping by and presenting the Youth Employment & Skills Strategy (YESS) Federal Grant which is a youth initiative led by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and delivered in partnership by 12 federal departments.  This program supports youth to gain work experience and develop the skills they need to successfully find and keep quality jobs.

Programming focuses on youth facing multiple barriers to employment such as
education, food and income security, mental health, transportation, housing and health as well as broader systemic barriers such as racism and ableism.

This successful program has been in existence at the Old School since 2019 employing 83 local youth who received employment training and work placements with local businesses and organizations. To date we have had an 80% success rate with our program. The funding totals $948,885 over 4 years. The next program will begin in September 2025.
