PROGRAMMING & SERVICES
The Old School is committed to offering programming that contributes to the health and wellness of community members of all ages. In the past, we have offered information sessions and demos around diet and nutrition, managing chronic illness, and financial literacy. Enhance Through Dance (which was initially funded through the federal government’s New Horizons Program) is still going strong and meet each Friday morning.
Two levels of Tai Chi for arthritis (Beginner and Intermediate) are offered every Wednesday morning by a local volunteer instructor. Tai Chi is a low key, low impact exercise that benefits the body and mind.
The Old School houses Eastern Shore Mental Health (ESMH), a network of peer mental health supporters who match community members with resources and services. ESMH also offers a weekly peer support meeting every Sunday afternoon, all are welcome.
We work closely with the Eastern Shore Musquodoboit Community Health Board (ESMCHB) on filling the gaps in mental health services available in our communities. They have developed a brochure detailing the mental health supports available to residents of the Eastern Shore and Musquodoboit Valley. Mental Wellness is Important to Everyone has valuable information on:
things you can do for yourself
things you can do to help others
things you can do in your community
Currently the Old School Team is working with Harbourside Lodge in Sheet Harbour and the Braeside Home for Special Care in Middle Musquodoboit on the Well-Being HUB initiative. Our goal with Well-Being HUB is to offer wrap around supports for community members receiving home care, those in Long Term Care and those who will enter the care system in the future, as well as their care partners. Find out more about the Well-Being HUB here.
